As we head toward some releases in early 2024, I wanted to share with you some of our processes in getting our miniatures ready from print, going from our mech builder thru 3d print.

Where we are today was helped a lot because we had video game models already set up to build mechs modularly, which helped take care of Step 1 – Modeling.

Step 2– Putting Mech configs together. Having this in a game engine helped, as we put together a configuration in the engine and then exported it into FBX files.

Step 3 – Prepping the model for export to STL. Once we have our FBX files, our artist pulls the model into Blender and performs a few steps, including joining the multiple meshes into one mesh, fixing any issues, and then finally exporting the model into STL format!

Step 4– Import the models into a slicer and send them to the printer. The last step in the process hopefully produces your miniature. We have been printing miniatures internally for testing and are now working with some high-end providers to help produce our miniatures in mass (more coming soon!).

At the end of the day, we learned a lot about our pipeline and what has worked and what has not. We are making some improvements to not only our models but also our process and hope to be able to share an app in the future that will allow players to build their own variants and then either generate their own STLs for print and/or have the ability to submit them to our printer for a high-quality miniature!
